HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ — The audiobook versions of three pulp fiction classics by L. Publishers Weekly, the news magazine of the publishing industry, named The Great Secret and Spy Killer as two of their Best of 2008 audio titles. In their announcement, the magazine described The Great Secret, narrated by Bruce Boxleitner (How the West Was Won, Babylon 5, Tron) and a full cast, as “a wonderfully rich and textured experience, complete with realistic sound effects and moody atmospheric music.”

AudioFile Magazine gave their top audio award, the Earphone, to the soon-to-be-released audio, The Iron Duke, also by Hubbard. The publication also called Galaxy Press’ companion mini-documentary, “The Making of a Golden Age Audiobook,” as giving “a fantastic glimpse behind the microphones of the L. Ron Hubbard Stories from the Golden Age series.” (www.goldenagestories.com/html/podcasts.php#6)

“The success of such Hollywood blockbusters as Spiderman, Indiana Jones, and The Mummy shows that pulp fiction stories are still wildly popular today,” said John Goodwin, Galaxy Press president. “It’s no wonder that these audiobook versions created in the style of radio theater would capture people’s imaginations.”

Audiobooks continue to do well, particularly for the transportation sector and today’s mobile society. “We have found that our audiobooks sell exceptionally well through multiple transportation-related outlets such as truck stops where we have vacationers and truckers alike who can get immersed in storytelling replete with everything except the video track,” said Goodwin. “All it requires is getting someone to listen to just one of these audios, and we are pretty much guaranteed they will want to hear the next story.”
