Coldplay, Duffy top Brit Award nods

The British rock band Coldplay and singer Duffy each earned four nominations for Brit Awards, organizers in London said.

Coldplay was nominated for best British group and best British live act, while its album Viva La Vida or Death and all His Friends is up for best British album and its song Viva La Vida is in the running for best British single.

Duffy garnered mentions in the best British female solo artist and British breakthrough act categories. Her CD Rockferry was nominated for best British album and her song Mercy for best British single.

Adele, Scouting for Girls and Elbow were nominated for three Brit Awards apiece.

Competing with Coldplay and Duffy for the best British album prize are Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid, the Ting Tings' We Started Nothing and Radiohead's In Rainbows.

Elbow, Girls Aloud, Radiohead and Take That were nominated alongside Coldplay for the best British group honor.

Shortlisted for the best British single award, along with the offerings from Coldplay and Duffy, are Adele's Chasing Pavements, Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah and Dizzee Racsal's Dance Wiv Me.

The winners are to be announced Feb. 18.
