Bright Horizons Named One of FORTUNE's '100 Best' for 10th Time

Posted on: Thursday, 22 January 2009, 10:30 CST

WATERTOWM, Mass., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the world's leading provider of employer-sponsored child care, early education, and work/life solutions, announced today that for the tenth time it has been named to FORTUNE magazine's list of "The 100 Best Companies to Work For." Bright Horizons is the only company in the early education industry to receive this distinction. Nearly half the employers on the FORTUNE list are Bright Horizons clients, partnering with the company to provide critical work/life services that enable their employees to thrive in their professional and personal lives.

"We are proud to have been named to the FORTUNE list for the tenth time. At a time when all workplaces and all employers are challenged, we are proud to be recognized for our longstanding culture that recognizes and rewards people for the passion they bring to their work. It is the dedication and commitment of our 18,000 employees worldwide to serving each other, each child, each family, and each client with a commitment to excellence that enables us to achieve our mission of making a lasting impact in the world," said Bright Horizons Chief Executive Officer David Lissy. "We also congratulate our many clients who were named to the list and understand the value of the investment in supporting their employees and their families through all of life's stages."

"Our business relies on strong relationships among coworkers as well as the families and clients we serve in order to thrive. It is a tremendous honor to be acknowledged by FORTUNE again this year and to receive this important recognition for our unique culture that fosters the environment of compassion, teamwork and dedication to excellence that opens worlds of discovery for children and provides parents with the confidence and critical support they need to succeed at work and at home," noted Bright Horizons President and Chief Operating Officer Mary Ann Tocio.

Each year, two-thirds of the total score for the FORTUNE "100 Best Companies to Work For" list comes from responses to a random employee survey, measuring such things as employee attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, benefits and compensation programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).

Bright Horizons ranked this year at #30 among large companies and #80 overall. The complete list and related stories are available now at www.fortune.com and will appear in the February 2 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands January 26.
