Miss Indiana Katie Stam says being named Miss America 2009 at this weekend's pageant in Las Vegas was a dream come true.
The 22-year-old beauty was crowned Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Theatre for the Performing Arts, the Las Vegas Tribune-Review reported Sunday.
This is truly a dream come true for me and I'm just trying to take it all in,
Stam said.
Stam said having suffered from laryngitis and a throat infection last week only made her victory that much sweeter.
It taught me about myself, my limitations,
the University of Indianapolis communications major said.
I just believe God doesn't give you anything you can't handle.
Stam, who narrowly beat out Miss Georgia Chastity Hardman for the title, even managed to sing Via Dolorosa
for the talent portion of the ceremony despite her earlier illness, the Tribune-Review reported.
