Wood on Rourke: Nothing ever happened

January 29, 2009

Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel Wood — who play father and daughter in the U.S. film The Wrestler — insist they are not romantically involved in real life.

Rumors have swirled for months that the pair are dating, but the talk became rampant after the two were reportedly seen spending time together after Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony, where Rourke was nominated for best leading male actor in a feature film.

However, Rourke’s publicist told Usmagazine.com: There is absolutely no truth in these rumors. Mickey and Evan became great friends during filming and remain friends; nothing more.

Wood, 21, told Rolling Stone she isn’t dating her 56-year-old co-star.

I’m upset because I feel disrespected by the press and by Mr. Rourke. Just because I’m single doesn’t mean that you can take advantage of me. It’s unfair that the performances might suffer because of all of these distractions, she said. I’m not attracted to him; he’s too old for me. Nothing ever happened and nothing ever will.
