‘Slumdog’ tops Directors Guild Awards
British director Danny Boyle was the best director of 2008 for his work on the critical smash Slumdog Millionaire,
the Directors Guild of America says.
The TV and film organization named Boyle, 52, the winner of the 2008 DGA best director award during its annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles Saturday, the Los Angeles Times said Sunday.
While Boyle’s directorial talents in regards to Slumdog
had already been honored by the Golden Globes and British Independent Film Award, Saturday night’s award marked his first guild award win.
Other top winners at the DGA event, which was hosted by actor Jon Cryer, were The Wire
director Dan Attias in the TV drama series category and Paul Feig of The Office
for best direction in a TV comedy series.
The Times said the award for best direction of a TV movie went to Jay Roach for HBO’s The Recount,
while Ari Folman earned best documentary direction honors for the film Waltz with Bashir.
