Singer Ewen is Britain’s Eurovision hope

Singer Jade Ewen will represent Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest after winning a televised contest, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber says.

Ewen was picked by general public voters as the winner of Your Country Needs You, a TV competition created to choose Britain's next Eurovision representative, the BBC said Sunday.

Webber, who created the ballad My Time for Britain's chosen Eurovision competitor, said he is committed to working with Ewen before the May 16 Eurovision final in Moscow.

The composer's comments after Ewen's victory Saturday were vastly different than those prior to the Country final.

Webber expressed concern regarding Saturday's finalists, saying it would be a mistake to put through somebody who didn't appear to do the song justice.

Webber created My Time with Grammy Award-winning lyricist Diane Warren.

The BBC said Ewen defeated Country competitors The Twins and Mark Evans in the Country final.
