One Hundred Three New York Tri-State Area Athletes Nominated to Play at 2009 McDonald's All American(R) High School Basketball Games in Miami

ROSELAND, N.J., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- One hundred three New York, New Jersey and Connecticut girls and boys high school basketball players have been recognized as nominees for the annual McDonald's All American High School Basketball Teams. This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Boys' McDonald's All American Game and the eighth annual Girls' Game.

These local players are among the top 2,500 high school senior boys and girls basketball player standouts in the nation, nominated by the McDonald's All American Basketball Team selection committee, a group of nationally prominent basketball experts. The nominees will be considered for one of 24 slots on each of the final McDonald's All American Girls and Boys High School Basketball Teams, which will feature an East vs. West showdown on April 1, 2009 in Miami, Fla. "These players have shown a tremendous amount of dedication and teamwork. We believe it's qualities such as these that will help them succeed at the Games this year and throughout their lives."

The Boys Game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. EST, Wednesday, April 1, at the BankUnited Center in Miami, Fla. and will air live on ESPN. The Girls Game will precede the Boys Game at 5:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

Proceeds from both Games will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities(R) (RMHC(R)) of South Florida. To date, millions of dollars have been donated to RMHC Chapters from proceeds generated at the McDonald's All American Games. RMHC's core three programs include the Ronald McDonald House(R), Ronald McDonald Family Room(R) and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile(TM) -- extending the reach of the Charity to directly improve the health and wellbeing of children around the world.

Since 1977, over 700 male players have competed in the McDonald's All American Games, forming an elite list that reads like a "Who's Who" in basketball history. McDonald's All American athletes include basketball

greats Alonzo Mourning, Magic Johnson, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant. McDonald's All American alumni also include WNBA talent Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx) and Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks) who made history at the 2004 McDonald's All American Games when she became the first woman to win the slam dunk contest at the POWERade(R) Jam Fest. Current NCAA stars include Maya Moore (Connecticut) and Glory Johnson (Tennessee).
