Director Claudia Llosa says it was an honor to win a Golden Bear award for best picture at the Berlin Film Festival for The Milk of Sorrow.
Llosa thanked festival judges for bestowing the prestigious honor on her Peruvian film, which tells the tale of a young woman who was the result of a 1980s rape, the BBC reported Saturday.
This is beautiful ... this is such an honor,
Llosa said at the festival, which began Feb. 5 and ended Sunday.
This is for Peru. This is for our country.
The runners-up in the fest film category were Gigante
from Uruguay and the German movie Everyone Else.
This year's best actor Silver Bear went to London River
star Sotigui Kouyate, while festival judges honored Happy-Go-Lucky
star Sally Hawkins as best actress.
The BBC said Iranian director Asghar Farhadi was named best director for About Elly.
