Broadcom Demonstrates First Android-Enabled Mobile Phone Platform Supporting High Definition Camcorder, Video Player and up to 12 Megapixel Digital Camera Applications
Posted on: Monday, 16 February 2009, 02:05 CST
Mobile phones are quickly evolving to include more advanced multimedia capabilities such as high definition video, mobile TV, personal navigation, high quality camcorder and digital camera features that rival standalone products. It is expected that the true mobile web experience in next generation smartphones will include rich multimedia capabilities, as well as the ability to play video on a cell phone regardless of source resolution. As a result, mobile phones will need to be able to support all popular multimedia formats so that content available on the web is accessible and playable on the handset.

Developed by the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), Android is the first free and open mobile platform that includes everything a manufacturer or operator needs to build a mobile phone, including a platform, middleware and key mobile applications. Developers can take advantage of its comprehensive software stack to develop innovative applications and compelling services. By contributing to the Android platform, members of the OHA can make it easier for developers to distribute and commercialize their applications.
