U.S. filmmaker John Sayles is writing an HBO series based on Scar Tissue, the autobiography of Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis, Variety.com said.

Sayles’s movies include Baby, It’s You, Honeydripper, Silver City, Sunshine State and Lone Star.

The HBO show he is writing is expected to cover the rocker’s childhood, particularly his years living in West Hollywood in the 1970s with his father, a drug dealer and aspiring musician known as Spider.

Producers Marc Abrams and Michael Benson, who teamed up with Kiedis to create the series, said Sayles has been meeting with both Kiedis and Kiedis’ father as he begins writing screenplays for the show.

John writes from a real human place and has already tapped into the relationship between young Anthony and his dad, Abrams told Variety.com.
