Jack Danahy Shares His Experience as Founder of Two Successful Technology Companies in Recently Published Book

WALTHAM, Mass., March 4 /PRNewswire/ — Ounce Labs, the industry leader in enterprise static application security testing (SAST), today announced that its co-founder and CTO, Jack Danahy has authored a chapter for the recently published business book, “Inside the Minds: Implementing a Successful Technology Strategy,” published by Aspatore Books. The chapter is based on Danahy’s entrepreneurial experience as the founder of two successful technology companies.

“Inside the Minds: Implementing a Successful Technology Strategy” is an authoritative, insiders’ perspective about devising, developing, and executing effective long-term technology strategies for companies. As a result of Danahy’s entrepreneurial success, he was chosen by the Inside the Minds editorial board to contribute a chapter for this book, which provides best practices for creating an advantageous strategy, handling increasing complexity, and making the most of budget restrictions.

Danahy’s chapter, “Defining Success by Understanding Others’ Views of the Future,” details his personal experiences and lessons learned during his career, specifically as the founder of multiple technology companies. In the book, Danahy discusses the lessons he learned from the experience of his first start-up, Qiave Technologies, which was sold to WatchGuard Technologies in 2000, and how that experience influenced his latest venture – Ounce Labs, which launched in 2002 and was recently positioned in the leaders’ quadrant in the first Gartner Magic Quadrant for Static Application Security Testing.(1)

“My experience with Ounce Labs Inc. was obviously a significant departure from the process I followed in creating my first company,” said Danahy. “At Qiave, I had a belief in a new way to protect data and systems, which I then went out and evangelized. It was successful, but not market-changing. At Ounce, I started by asking hundreds of potential customers what they saw as their biggest risk, and when that turned out to be insecure applications, we created a company to build that. Our success has shown me that a successful CTO does better to listen first and then think of a solution, instead of thinking of a solution first and then trying to convince others that they should listen.”

Danahy offers other reflections and commentary on security and related topics in his Suitable Security blog at http://suitablesecurity.blogspot.com/.

In addition to Danahy’s contribution, the book features chapters from other C-level executives, representing some of the top companies in the U.S. These authors outline the fundamental components of successful technologies, industry trends and demographics, the role of the Internet, and more.
