'Investing In Stocks': New Book Introduces Readers New and Experienced to the Stock Market

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 March 2009, 07:45 CDT

MARIETTA, Ga., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In his new book, "Investing In Stocks" (available through AuthorHouse), Bill Gilmer provides a comprehensive guide to help readers understand the workings of the stock market and yield a much better than average gain on their investments.

Gilmer imparts to readers the importance of beginning at a young age and putting capital aside each year to save for retirement. He also urges them to monitor investments regularly to make sure that they are growing at a good rate. "It's important to invest in items that provide a decent return on one's valuable 'capital-time,'" he says. "Capital can grow over time and provide one a reasonably comfortable retirement IF one follows the rules outlined in this presentation."

"Investing In Stocks" covers a myriad of issues related to investing, including the value of mutual funds, using the Internet to chart and comparing the performance of various options. The book includes full-color pictures, graphs and charts, as well as an extensive glossary of terms to introduce readers to the various phrases and symbols used in the stock market. "One can make oneself richer by setting the correct objective and working to carry it out," says Gilmer.

Using his own investments as examples, Gilmer takes readers through a year of research, philosophy and decisions made each weekend that caused his portfolio to grow from $50,000 to $125,000, up 150 percent. Through each of the 52 weeks, he illustrates the tools used, how they operate, the philosophy used and the results. Many weeks Gilmer was in Cash. It's just as important to know when to not be in The Market -- reasons of loss prevention! "The objective is to teach the reader how to read 'The Mood of the Market' and act on it so as to maximize gains and minimize losses," he says. During this year's time the S&P 500 Index (the market) increased 14.25 percent, one-tenth the gain of his portfolio. What is shown over this year's time are actual events in researching and trading actual Stocks, not theory!

Gilmer was born in Atlanta. He has worked with computer office equipment all of his life, including running IBM computers in the Army at Fort McPherson. He was an IBM systems engineer for several years and started a national computer software company in 1981. He served as president of that company until his retirement in 1999. He learned the stock trade the hard way as he helped his parents transfer their savings into mutual funds, and then later moved the money to stocks. Gilmer wrote "Investing In Stocks" to help others learn how to invest easily and quickly without making the mistakes he did over the years. This is his first book, but he is working on two other books that he plans to publish in the future.
