Photo Exhibit Featuring Pennsylvania Children Waiting to Be Adopted Visits Pittsburgh

Posted on: Wednesday, 11 March 2009, 16:12 CDT

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Heart Gallery, a traveling exhibit featuring professional portraits and biographies of just a few of the thousands of Pennsylvania children waiting to be adopted, is currently on display through March 19 at The Children's Institute in Pittsburgh.

"As it travels across the state, the Heart Gallery provides an ideal opportunity for visitors to learn more about our children," said Secretary of Public Welfare Estelle B. Richman. "Visitors will find that many of our children are simply searching for a permanent place to call home. For that reason, we hope all Pennsylvanians will consider opening their hearts and homes to a child in need."

This year's gallery features more than 40 Pennsylvania children currently waiting to find a permanent family. Two of the children, eight-year-old Dontae and 11-year-old Brandon, are from the Pittsburgh area.

Modeled after a concept created in New Mexico and developed locally by the Department of Public Welfare, the Pennsylvania Heart Gallery is on its third statewide tour. Pennsylvania photographers donated their time and services to create portraits for the gallery. Each child's photo is accompanied by a detailed profile including information about his or her interests, personality and dreams. Following The Children's Institute, the Heart Gallery will be on display for three weeks at the Harrisburg Mall.
