More Family Fun Programs Slated for Spring

IRVINE, Calif., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Come say goodbye to winter and hello to spring at Shamrocks and Skates, a free ice skating event at the Orange County Great Park temporary Ice Rink on Saturday, March 14. The early St. Patrick's Day-themed event features hockey skills games with the Anaheim Ducks Street Team, ice carving demonstrations, children's treasure hunt, Celtic music and snacks. Visitors can even enjoy sledding - don't worry about bringing your own sled - they'll be provided by the Great Park.

The March 14th Shamrock and Skates will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with hourly skating. Ice time and skates are free for all. Many of our Great Park partners will participate at Shamrocks and Skates including: the Great Park Neighborhoods with their bike raffle; the Great Park Conservancy with a children's treasure hunt; and the Anaheim Ducks Street Team who will be on hand with hockey skills activities for everyone, just outside the temporary ice rink located in the Preview Park near the orange balloon.

"The Great Park Ice Rink helps further the growth of hockey in Orange County, something that the Ducks are fully committed to do within our community," said Ducks Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer Bob Wagner.

"Shamrocks and Skates is a fun way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the whole family," said Larry Agran, Chair, Great Park Board Corporation. "And beginning the following month we will offer even more free family activities for spring with Picture the Park."

Picture the Park is a fun event to explore one's imagination and vision of the Great Park scheduled for April 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitors will capture their vision of the Great Park through sidewalk chalk art drawings, a model building lab and the art of agriculture where participants will learn how crops grow, along with hands-on activities.

The Winter Programs Schedule concludes March 15, 2009, with ice skating from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Great Park 2009 year-round schedule resumes April 25 with Picture the Park followed by Movie on the Lawn, Great Park Anniversary Event, summer dance and concert series, Pumpkin Harvest and El Toro Heritage events.
