Wright set to direct ‘Summer’

British filmmaker Joe Wright has signed on to direct the big-screen period drama Indian Summer, Variety.com reported.

Wright previously helmed the soon-to-be-released The Soloist, as well as Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.

Based on Alex von Tunzelmann's book by the same name, Indian Summer is about the last days of Britain's colonial rule in India.

Gladiator scribe William Nicholson is writing the script for the film, which is slated to start shooting early next year in India. No actors have been hired for the cast yet, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

After making 'The Soloist' in Los Angeles, I was looking for something that was primarily about the British experience, Wright told Daily Variety.
