‘The Extinction Gene’: World-Changing Scientific Discovery Caught-Up in Battle Between New-Age Mongol Warlord and Russian Efforts to Dominate Europe in Unique New Thriller
March 13, 2009
CANYON, Texas, March 13 /PRNewswire/ —
Walter Perriman returns home to New York from a dig he has been exploring in the Gobi Desert with evidence that 60 million years ago, global warming triggered a DNA sequence in dinosaurs that caused their extinction. He has found the same DNA sequence in recently extinct species and believes that today’s climate changes are again activating what he calls the “extinction gene.” The proof for his theories is in danger of being lost due to the construction of an immense natural gas pipeline project established by an agreement between Russia and China called The Syberian Accord. The planned pipeline will pass though, and destroy, the dig.
In “The Extinction Gene,” a new novel by
Robert Gross (published by iUniverse), the Nobel Prize-winning paleontologist finds signs that the gene is becoming active in humans — but he is murdered before he can complete his research. Forensic ecologist, Dr.
Allen Trevathan, travels to the dig at the last request of his friend, unaware of the potential significance of Perriman’s work. Professor
Kim Do, the dead scientist’s assistant, joins Trevathan and they are hunted across the Altai Mountains. Neither of them understand the reason someone is trying to kill them and destroy the data that could save humanity. The answer involves greed, deceit, and a thousand-year-old pursuit of a world empire.
The governor of the province in Mongolia where the dig is located is a half-mad descendant of
Genghis Khan who refers to himself as “The Warlord.” He sees Dr. Perriman’s theories and the route of the Syberian Accord as a gift from his gods to enable him to reshape the world according to “The Great Khan’s” teachings. He nearly succeeds, but is betrayed by his brother, who wants only to overthrow the government of Mongolia and sell out to the Russians.
Allen and Kim obtain the data on Perriman’s theories, but international political powers, including the U.S., take control of the information. Was Perriman right? Are we causing our own extinction — another failed experiment of nature that is being phased out? Will the warlord fail?
