Cramer, Stewart spar on 'The Daily Show'

Posted on: Friday, 13 March 2009, 08:54 CDT

Jon Stewart confronted financial expert Jim Cramer on Thursday's episode of The Daily Show about Cramer's treatment of the U.S. economic crisis.

I understand that you want to make finance entertaining but it's not a (expletive) game, E! Online quoted Stewart as telling Cramer, the star of CNBC's Mad Money program. I can't reconcile the brilliance and knowledge you have of the intricacies of the market with the crazy (B.S.) I see you do every night.

E! Online said Cramer arrived on stage for his chat with faux news show host Stewart with a glistening brow and rolled-up sleeves. The entertainment news Web site also noted Cramer's voice cracked repeatedly as he tried to explain his on-air tactics.

Don't you want guys who have been in it like me to show the shenanigans? Cramer countered. We all should have seen it more.

Stewart didn't seem convinced by the argument, however.

Now to pretend that this was some sort of crazy once-in-a-lifetime tsunami that no one could see coming is disingenuous at best and criminal at worst, argued Stewart, who ultimately conceded both he and Cramer should focus on what they do best in the future.

So, maybe we could remove the 'financial expert' and the 'in Cramer we trust' and start getting back to fundamentals on the reporting, as well, and I can go back to making fart noises and funny faces, Stewart said.
