Allin Interactive Unveils Microsoft Surface Applications at SeaTrade Miami

March 17, 2009

Purpose-driven applications for the cruise ship environment integrate with Allin’s Interactive Television services

PITTSBURGH, March 17 /PRNewswire/ — Allin Corporation, a leading provider of solutions-oriented application development, technology consulting and systems integration services, unveiled today two major DigiTouch(TM) applications, for Microsoft Surface, at the SeaTrade Miami Cruise and Shipping Convention in Miami, Florida. The Allin DigiTouch(TM) applications, specifically created for the cruise ship environment, were developed to enhance the onboard public interactive environment by offering easy and fun access to port and shore excursion information as well as ship highlights.

The Allin Interactive business unit of Allin Corporation, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the foremost provider of Interactive Television (ITV) services to the cruise ship industry. The new Microsoft Surface applications enhance and extend Allin’s interactive platform to public spaces onboard. “Microsoft Surface presents a new, crowd-gathering way to introduce interactive services to cruise ship passengers,” stated Brian Blair, Managing Director of Allin Interactive. “Microsoft Surface provides an interactive, natural-gesture-based technology that extends our fully integrated DigiMix(TM) platform, and allows a cohesive, complementary marketing message to be communicated to guests both in their cabins and in public spaces.”

The new cruise ship applications, scheduled for deployment in June 2009, are built on the Microsoft software platform, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Allin’s “Port Information and Shore Excursions” application allows onboard guests to have fun investigating the ports-of-call on their voyage, booking shore excursions, and learning about highlighted port restaurants, port shopping, and special points-of-interest. Shore excursion purchase transactions are immediately posted to passenger accounts for ticketing fulfillment.

“The Port Information and Shore Excursions application also opens new opportunities for cruise lines to generate incremental advertising and sponsorship revenue from port destinations,” added Mr. Blair. “This will complement and enhance the onboard advertising programs that are currently offered to port retailers and restaurants.”

Allin’s “Ship Highlights” application presents guests with all of the onboard venues, amenities and entertainment and allows guests to discover these highlights in a fun and interactive fashion. Passengers can request to be contacted regarding a specific topic, and appropriate onboard personnel are immediately notified of the requests.

Microsoft Surface uses a camera-based system that lets users “grab” digital content with their hands and manipulate it in an easy and intuitive way through simple hand gestures and touches. Sandra Andrews, U.S. hospitality industry solutions director at Microsoft, said, “In a difficult economic environment, cruise lines are seeking ways to improve the customer experience and drive better loyalty. Allin’s DigiTouch(TM) applications for Microsoft Surface help achieve these goals. With eye-catching and easy-to-use interfaces, these solutions allow families and friends to socialize and interact with technology, as well as administrators to easily manage them as part of overall IT operations.”

The SeaTrade Cruise & Shipping Conference is celebrating its 25th Anniversary as the premier international conference and exhibition serving the cruise industry. The conference is March 17-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
