2009 Tavistock Cup Goes to Lake Nona

Graeme McDowell helps Lake Nona clinch second win

ORLANDO, Fla., March 17 /PRNewswire/ — Team Lake Nona had the advantage over Team Isleworth on the final day of the 2009 Tavistock Cup claiming victory on their home turf. Team Lake Nona won with a final score of 17-13 and was crowned the World Golf and Country Club champion for the second time in the tournament’s six-year history.

Graeme McDowell helped lead Team Lake Nona to victory and claimed the low medalist for Day Two posting a score of -6 (66). He took home the Payne Stewart Salver Award and the $300,000 prize. Team Lake Nona’s Justin Rose and Team Isleworth’s Darren Clarke and Stuart Appleby were runners-up with a score of -4 (68).

Since the tournament’s inception, Isleworth has claimed three Tavistock Cup titles in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Team Lake Nona won its first Tavistock Cup in 2007. In 2005, Team Lake Nona and Team Isleworth finished tied following three holes of a thrilling sudden-death duel.

The Tavistock Cup pits the touring professional golf members of Lake Nona Golf & Country Club against those at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. Played in team format, the players vie for a purse of $3.5 million, with $1 million donated on behalf of the winning team to charities of their choice.

Participants in the 2009 Tavistock Cup include captain Mark O’Meara, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Daniel Chopra, Darren Clarke, John Cook, J.B. Holmes, Charles Howell III, Nick O’Hern and Tiger Woods for Team Isleworth. Team Lake Nona participants include captain Ernie Els, Ben Curtis, Chris DiMarco, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Graeme McDowell, Mark McNulty, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson.
