‘Up’ to open Cannes film festival
The 3D animated movie
Up has been named the opening selection of France’s Festival de Cannes, organizers said.
The Disney Pixar movie, which is about an old man who fastens balloons to his house and flies to South America with a young Boy Scout along for the ride, is set to screen at Cannes May 13. It is slated for U.S. theatrical release May 29 and will open in France July 29.
The Hollywood Reporter said this is the first time an animated 3D movie will open the festival.
Up features the voices of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, John Ratzenberger and newcomer Jordan Nagai.
