Award-Winning Public Relations Expert April L. Hutcheson Joins La Torre Communications

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- La Torre Communications, a full-service public relations and public affairs firm, today welcomed award-winning public relations expert April L. Hutcheson to the firm.

Ms. Hutcheson got her start with small nonprofit organizations before going on to serve critical roles in the administrations of Pennsylvania Govs. Tom Ridge, Mark Schweiker and Edward G. Rendell. She served as a deputy press secretary in the Office of the Governor, as well as press secretary for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and deputy press secretary for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Ms. Hutcheson was the state's communications point person on a variety of issues, including the 2003 blizzard, drought, air quality, West Nile virus and terrorism preparedness.

Since leaving state service in 2003, Ms. Hutcheson has provided public relations counsel for a variety of organizations, including Jewish Family Service, Tri-County OIC and Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry (PAGD), among others. She began her career as the marketing and communications director for Ken-Crest Services, a nonprofit human-services organization in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Ms. Hutcheson has been recognized for her outstanding work by the Religious Public Relations Council of America for crisis communications and by the International Association of Business Communicators.

A Philadelphia native, she holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Journalism from Temple University. Ms. Hutcheson currently resides in Mechanicsburg with her husband and two daughters.
