U.S. pop star Madonna has begun proceedings to adopt a second child from Malawi, the New York Daily News reported.
The recently divorced singer lives in Manhattan with her two biological children -- Lourdes and Rocco -- and her 3-year-old adopted son David.
She has been making headlines recently for her successful concert tour, as well as her alleged dalliances with younger men since she and her filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie split up last year.
Authorities told the Daily News Madonna has filed papers to adopt a 3-year-old girl named Mercy and the performer's case could be heard in a Malawi court by Monday.
However, Simon Chisale, Malawi's child welfare chief, told the newspaper this week that Madonna's love life could impact the outcome of the adoption hearing.
We do not only look at the material issues, but also the moral standing of prospective adoptive parents, because we do not want our children's morals to be corrupted,
Chisale said.
