'The Gentleman Host: A Cruise Ship Nightmare'

Posted on: Friday, 27 March 2009, 07:05 CDT

VICTORVILLE, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A serial killer makes the ocean his playground as he poses as a suave gentleman host on cruise ships in Dwight Norris's thriller, "The Gentleman Host: A Cruise Ship Nightmare" (published by iUniverse).

Without explanation, middle-aged women suddenly go missing from cruise ships. Perhaps their disappearances are tragic accidents, but without a body, a witness, or even a crime scene, these missing persons make for difficult investigations. "The Gentleman Host" does for cruising what "Jaws" did for swimming at the beach.

On a cruise in 2003, Dwight Norris actually met a gentleman host who was on the ship to keep single women company. Later, he began to notice that people really do disappear from cruise ships. Granted, some of them are accidents, others suicide, but Norris figured that foul play on occasion has to be a part of it. Therefore he decided to write about a serial killer who escorts women on cruises until he selects a victim and tosses her overboard in the middle of the night, something he's done for more than 20 years. The question is why? The explanation is for retired Detectives Dusty Flanagan and Sam Murphy to figure out.

In reality, vast numbers of vacationers go on cruises every year with a false sense of security. They trust the cruise line and unwind under the warm sun while enjoying various entertainments. They have no reason to mistrust an employee of the ship hired to host female guests, until the unthinkable happens.

Norris warns with tongue in cheek, "If you're going on a cruise, don't read this book!"
