Organ donation group lauds 'Seven Pounds'

Posted on: Tuesday, 31 March 2009, 10:24 CDT

The organ donation advocacy group Donate Life Hollywood says it plans to honor the film Seven Pounds at its upcoming awards dinner.

The film starring Will Smith and Rosario Dawson was released on DVD Tuesday.

The organ and tissue donation/transplant community can be critical of Hollywood's portrayal of our issue because too often they get it wrong, which costs lives, Donate Life Hollywood Campaign Director Tenaya Wallace said in a statement. 'Seven Pounds' is the first feature film to show the real-life pain of those waiting for a transplant and the profound joy of receiving the gift of life and sight. Will Smith got it right.

The group said it plans to show its appreciation for the movie by bestowing its Outstanding Portrayal of Organ and Tissue Donation in a Motion Picture award upon it.

The prize is to be presented at the Donate Life Hollywood Film Festival's evening awards dinner to be held at the Directors' Guild of America June 13.
