Memphis School Teacher Wins Cellular South 'Hoops Mania' Contest

Championship Weekend Getaway Includes All Expense Paid Trip For Two To Detroit For Big Games

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A 37-year-old Memphis school teacher will be taking the "trip of a lifetime" when she boards a plane on Friday at Memphis International Airport with her 18-year-old daughter to attend the final games of the Division 1 men's college basketball championship in Detroit this weekend after winning the grand prize in Cellular South's recently completed "Hoops Mania" promotion.

Sandra Robinson, a preschool teacher at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis, won the grand prize package as part of a register-to-win contest last week at Cellular South's nine retail stores in the Memphis metropolitan area. The package, worth more than $6,000, includes round-trip airfare, a 4-night stay at the Westin Hotel, special event passes and lower level tickets to the championship games at Ford Field.

"I'm still in shock right now ... I never dreamed I would win," Robinson said. "This will definitely be the trip of a lifetime for me and my daughter as we've never flown in an airplane before or visited Michigan." Her daughter, DaQuandra Thomas, is a freshman at the University of Memphis.

Robinson's name was selected from among 500 entries and she credits her good fortune to Cellular South employees at the Poplar-Perkins retail store who encouraged her to fill out the register-to-win entry. "I was just going to pass it up and the retail staff really urged me to take a moment and submit an entry," she said. "As it turns out, I was really glad I listened to them."

Her new-found celebrity also has generated a lot of excitement and an outpouring of support among friends, family and co-workers. "They are just so thrilled and happy for me," Robinson said. "Every day, someone else tells me that they can't believe that I really won tickets to the Final Four."

While Robinson said she has no favorites in the upcoming championship games, her daughter, DaQuandra, is a Memphis Tigers fan and will probably be rooting for a couple of teams. "She used to play basketball in junior high and is a huge Tigers fan - so I know she will be rooting for a favorite team during the games on Saturday and Monday," Robinson said.

The grand prize package won by Robinson was part of a six-day "Hoops Mania" promotion by Cellular South in the Memphis area that featured interactive basketball games, contests and prizes totaling more than $20,000.
