Disney falls for Howard Hughes ‘Hoax’
By Sheigh Crabtree
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Disney has picked up
domestic distribution rights to "Hoax," a fact-based drama
starring Richard Gere as a bogus biographer of Howard Hughes.
The film centers on Clifford Irving, who sold his Hughes
biography to McGraw-Hill in the early '70s, and went to prison
after Hughes emerged from seclusion to denounce the book.
Alfred Molina will play Richard Suskind, Irving's accomplice,
while Marcia Gay Harden will star as Irving's wife, Edith.
"Hoax" is scheduled to start production next month in
Manhattan, with Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallstrom ("The
Shipping News") directing.
