FORT MYERS, Fla., April 13 /PRNewswire/ — Fundacion Azteca America is
pleased to announce the continuation of its ongoing 2009 issues forum series
with "The State of Latinos: Census 2010" on Thursday, April 16 at 11:30 am at
Hodges University in Fort Myers, FL.

The aim of the forum is to emphasize the importance of the 2010 Census for
the Latino community and the U.S. democratic process as a whole. Keynote
remarks will be given by Congressmember Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL). "Hispanics
have made invaluable contributions in the U.S., have had a positive impact
across our nation and have helped shape society. Hispanics are the fastest
growing minority in the U.S and our participation in the upcoming census is
critical to ensure that the needs of our community and families are met. I
look forward to participating in this forum, which will bring together leaders
from our community to discuss an issue very important to the growing Hispanic
population in Southwest Florida and across the country," said Congressmember
Diaz-Balart.

Moderated by Mayela Rosales, Executive Vice President of Azteca America
SWFL and Host of D’Latinos al Dia, the forum will provide insight into the
importance of Latino participation in the Census, as well as the current
immigration and economic situation in the United States. "We feel proud to be
the first Azteca America affiliate in the U.S. to take the important
leadership to bring local information about the Census 2010 and its
implications to our growing Hispanic community in the SWFL market," said

Mayela Rosales.

Dr. Deborah Ortega, from the University of Denver, will be giving an
update on the State of Latinos. In addition, the U.S. Census Bureau will be
represented by Irma Harahush, National Partnerships Branch Chief, and Manuel
Landivar
, Assistant Regional Census Manager. "The 2010 Census is important,
easy and safe. The questionnaire is only 10 questions, takes about 10 minutes
to complete and the information provided is strictly confidential and
protected by law. We look forward to working with all communities across the
country to make the 2010 Census a success," said Ms. Harahush. Other
panelists are Jadira Hoptry, Financial Consultant, and Sidney Menezes,
Attorney-at-Law at Choi & Menezes, LLP.

Fundacion Azteca America has taken a multipronged approach with its
campaign Porque tu vales, dejate contar! / Because you’re worth it, let
yourself be counted! to encourage Latino participation in the Census process.
The 2010 Census is a crucial step for the Latino community to ensure that it
is proportionally represented in federal, state and local budgets, as well as
in representative districts of the political process. Unfortunately, the
Latino community’s fear of authority can lead to limited participation in the
census process.

"Fundacion Azteca America has made the upcoming census a priority; we want
to ensure the participation of the Latino community because by being counted,
their needs can be accurately taken into consideration," said Luis J. Echarte,
Chairman of Azteca America Network and Fundacion Azteca America.
