George Harrison gets star on Walk of Fame
Paul McCartney and Tom Hanks attended the dedication ceremony for the late British musician George Harrison's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Harrison's wife Olivia and son Dhani also turned out for Tuesday's event as did U.S. rock 'n' roll singer Tom Petty, British comedian Eric Idle and hundreds of fans.Harrison, who had been a member of the Beatles along with McCartney, died of lung cancer in 2001. He was 58.
The BBC quoted Idle as describing Harrison as a
remarkable person with a
wonderful sense of humor, while Harrison's wife called her husband
a beautiful, mystical man living in a material world.
George Harrison held the future in the guitar in his hands and it had six strings. Let us thank Leo Fender, who brought electricity to music, Hanks said.
Let us thank them all for bringing us George. Every record was an event, every cut was an opera, the entire story told ours. All things must pass, sure. But George is going to live forever.
The Beatles also share a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame and another deceased Beatle, John Lennon, like Harrison, has his own marker.
