IRVINE, April 15 /PRNewswire/ – Calling all children! Could you be a future Great Park designer? Come use your imagination and creativity at Picture the Park, a free family fun event to explore your vision of the Great Park through hands-on activities including sidewalk chalk art drawings, a model building lab and the art of agriculture. Picture the Park takes place on Saturday, April 25th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Orange County Great Park in Hangar 244. The Orange County Great Park is a festival site participant for Imagination Celebration in conjunction with Arts Orange County and the Orange County Department of Education.

Picture the Park is the second program in our 2009 Great Park annual schedule,” said Mike Ellzey, Chief Executive Officer, Orange County Great Park Board Corporation. “This follows our successful Great Skate event which drew over 28,000 participants.”

Building on last year’s success, the model building lab will encourage participants to use miniature objects and elements to build and design their ideal park. Individual designs will be placed onto a large topography map, alongside other creations, to see how young minds envision the first great metropolitan park of the 21st Century.

Children can participate in sidewalk chalk art drawings alongside professional sidewalk chalk artists. People of all ages can create and showcase their chalk artwork alongside other drawings that depict a favorite memory or vision of the Great Park

The art of agriculture is an educational art activity that teaches children about agriculture. Children will decorate and create their own terracotta garden pot. They will add soil and plant their own seedling. They will also identify the planted seeds on a miniature garden sign, take it home and watch it grow.

Picture the Park is part of the Orange County Great Park’s 2009 Program Schedule. The next event is Movie on the Lawn on May 30th.
