Kiwanis Club of Little Havana & Eventus Form Multi-Year Alliance for Calle Ocho

Posted on: Tuesday, 21 April 2009, 08:00 CDT

The world's largest block party and other Carnaval Miami-related events included in master plan

MIAMI, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing community outreach programs in South Florida, and Eventus, the leading national Hispanic experiential marketing, sports and entertainment company, announced today a multi-year alliance surrounding Calle Ocho and other Carnaval Miami-related events. The partnership aligns the world's premier Hispanic block party that pioneered Hispanic festivals across the country, with the leading Hispanic experiential marketing company in the US, aiming to deliver invigorating ideas to take Calle Ocho and ancillary events to new heights.

"We are looking forward to this collaboration with Eventus, which understands the infrastructure of Carnaval Miami and the Calle Ocho event, and feel confident that this alliance will provide the necessary fuel to continue to propel Calle Ocho and Carnaval Miami as the world-class event that it has been for over 30 years," said Ricardo Gonzalez, President of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana.

The collaboration between both entities will consist of a "fresh-approach" master plan inclusive of sponsorship opportunities, event content, and marketing efforts. The endeavor will continue to support Kiwanis' mission to highlight the community's evolving multi-culturalism through the events' various touch-points.

"As a South Florida native, I have witnessed the good works that the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has accomplished for the South Florida community with the funds raised by Carnaval Miami events, and we look forward to working with the Kiwanis of Little Havana to help maintain Calle Ocho as the premier Hispanic festival in the country," said Eventus CEO & President, Nelson Albareda. "As a marketer, I recognize the unique opportunity that Carnaval Miami offers to connect consumers with brands and sponsors in a meaningful and relevant manner, bringing together Latin music, food and culture with the magic of a world-class city such as Miami," added Albareda.

Established in 1978 as a local open house event in Miami, Calle Ocho has become a Pan-American showcase recognized internationally as the world's largest block party. Lined with nearly twenty blocks of musical stages featuring an array of top Latin performers, ethnic food kiosks and children's activities, Calle Ocho attracts over a million attendees each year. It has served as the backdrop for stellar entertainment and record-breaking experiences. A vast array of performers have included Desi Arnaz, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Chayanne, Selena, Thalia, Willy Chirino and Oscar D'Leon to name a few. In 1988, Calle Ocho was the site of the largest conga line ever recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records with 119,969 participants led by Gloria Estefan. Other records followed at Calle Ocho including the largest pinata, the longest cigar and recently the most domino players on site.

Since Calle Ocho's inception, other events created include an 8K Run, Cooking Contest, Golf & Domino Tournaments and Carnaval on the Mile - a weekend experience of jazz and art, adding events to the yearly March celebration known as Carnaval Miami.
