Rotary Club to honor rapper DMC

The Rotary Club of Century City, Calif., has announced plans to honor hip-hop pioneer Darryl DMC McDaniels at a gala dinner next month.

McDaniels is to be presented with the Service Above Self award at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles May 30.

The performer was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the pioneering rap act Run-DMC.

DMC's commitment to helping inner city youth mirrors Rotary International's objective to use one's occupation as an opportunity to serve society, Shahram Hazany, president of the Century City group, said in a statement. The Rotary Club of Century City is honored to present the 'Service Above Self' award to an artist who is dedicated to using his musical success toward improving the lives of children.
