Jimmy Breslin’s daughter Kelly dead at 44
Kelly Breslin, the daughter of journalist and author Jimmy Breslin, has died at the age of 44, a spokeswoman for New York's Bellevue Hospital Center said.
The New York Post said Breslin died Tuesday night after collapsing early Friday at a Manhattan restaurant where she had been celebrating a friend's birthday.
Kelly Breslin's family told the newspaper she choked while eating at L'Express. Paramedics who were called to the scene found she wasn't breathing, gave her CPR and then took her to the hospital, the Post said.
She reportedly had been on life support during the weekend, but the cause of her death was not released to the press.
Simon Oren, the restaurant's owner, has previously said his staff did not perform the Heimlich manuevor on Breslin because she didn't appear to be choking. Oren said the woman collapsed about 15 minutes after her group's plates were taken away.
Jimmy Breslin is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and author best known for his work in the newspaper Newsday, as well as New York magazine.
