SCAN Health Plan Partners With Local Station ABC 15 to Provide Healthy Living Tips and Resources to Area Seniors

PHOENIX, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- SCAN Health Plan of Arizona announced today a partnership with local television station ABC 15 to provide health tips and healthy lifestyle information to area seniors. The initiative is part of the nonprofit health plan's ongoing commitment to improving the lives of seniors by helping them remain healthy and independent.

Central to the program is an ongoing series of 30-second health tips that will be airing on ABC throughout the year. Initial topics covered this month include hydration, sun protection, nutrition and identity protection. In addition, SCAN Arizona President Tom Lescault will be appearing monthly on the "Sonoran Living Live" program to talk about healthy senior living and provide information on classes taking place at the SCAN Senior Connections Resource Center (on April 28, for example, the Resource Center will be offering a class on fraud protection presented by the Arizona Attorney General's Office). Also as part of the partnership, SCAN Health Plan will serve as the title sponsor for all of ABC's "Healthy Living" content.

"As our society ages, it is more important than ever that seniors have easy access to information that will help them live longer and happier lives," said Lescault. "In ABC 15 we found the ideal partner to help us reach seniors on a consistent basis and truly be the resource they need."

SCAN's partnership with ABC 15 is the latest in growing series of community-outreach initiatives by the health plan. On May 2 more than 40 SCAN employees will participate in the Arthritis Walk at the Phoenix Zoo to raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation. The November opening of the SCAN Resource Center provided a place for local seniors to attend programs and classes, often in partnership with local agencies, on a multitude of healthcare issues. And according to Lescault, there is more on the way.

"Senior healthcare in Arizona is a huge issue," says Lescault, who also serves as president of the new Arizona Association of Health Plans. "Consistent with our mission we are going to do all we can to assure that seniors have easy, affordable access to information, resources and quality healthcare they need and richly deserve."
