DePaul Packaging's Kitting Puts Extra Topspin on Food and Beverage Sales, Brand Awareness

PORTLAND, Ore., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- DePaul Industries' Food & Consumer Goods Packaging Division based in Portland is the premier source in the Northwest for one of the hottest and proven marketing services today -- food & beverage kitting. DePaul Packaging is a full-service co-packer providing complete co-pack, shrink-wrap, shrink bands, kitting, gift packs, bundling and tracking services with full traceability. Visit: www.DePaulPackaging.com

Kitting is batching different products and/or product sku's in the brand family together to create a unique custom configuration to boost retail sales and brand awareness. In some cases, the kits combine compatible, non-competitive products from different companies such as cheese & cracker baskets or chocolate gift packs.

"Kitting is one of the most powerful attention-getting marketing strategies today and a proven product mover," Dean Stearman, general manager for DePaul's FCGP division said. "At DePaul, we work closely with clients to create kitting that provides new opportunities for extra facings, off-shelf display and additional consumer take-away for products," he said.

Stearman says kitting has become an important strategic and tactical methodology recently due to an increased focus on consumer profiling and product segmentation/customization known as "shopper marketing." Kitting is done by marketers at all geographic levels - locally, regionally and nationally. It offers marketers a special methodology that specifically impacts the shopper at retail with a package unique to the brand and unique to the shopper's needs based on the shopper profile developed and targeted by the chain retailer.

With the explosive growth of shopper marketing, kitting goes beyond providing just a specialty item, Stearman said. Kitting can be the answer for near and long-term collaborative responses to ever increasing segmentation - providing brand families with that extra and unique competitive edge.

Customization and speed are major DePaul strengths. DePaul assembles and packs multiple configurations of custom kits that can vary pallet-by-pallet, store-by-store, within a chain to target select shopper profiles per store location. DePaul can also include customized POS displays specific to the recipient store, per pallet.

Kitting provides an opportunity for food and beverage packers, retailers, brand marketers, supply chain and operations personnel to work closely with a company's marketing staff. This collaboration enables specific kitted packs to be created in response to shopper marketing needs of each chain or even each individual store within the chain.

"One of the many things clients love about kitting is that it shows their key accounts they can address their shopper marketing and account specific needs," Stearman said. "Kitting takes your product out of the commodity pricing conversation with key accounts and gives their in-store associates something new and exciting to talk about and show. And, we all love and want what's new!"
