Miss USA judge yanks essay due to threats

Miss USA judge Alicia Jacobs says she received death threats for blogging about how Miss California this week demonstrated no social grace at the pageant.

Jacobs, an entertainment reporter and former Miss Nevada USA, criticized Miss USA 2009 contestant Carrie Prejean for saying, in response to a question about same-sex marriage, she thinks marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman.

If Carrie Prejean is against gay marriage, she certainly has that right, but, if it was her intention to be Miss USA -- and I think it was -- why not answer that question with diplomacy and heart? Jacobs wrote on her blog. It is my opinion that Miss USA must have social grace... Miss California USA does not.

The Los Angeles Times said Jacobs pulled her blog entry regarding the pageant because she received death threats for the first time in her career.

Asked if she thinks the threats were in response to her blog item or to her not voting to crown Prejean Miss USA, Jacobs told the Times: It is hard to second-guess something that is still so shocking to me. But I think they originated with the blog entry. ... Some reporters probably get death threats every day. For me, it scared me.
