LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Wednesday was a big
night for ballroom dancing as nearly 22 million viewers turned
out for the finale of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” which
crowned “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco and partner Alec
Mazo winners of the dance competition.

The episode brought in 21.8 million viewers and a 6.5
rating/19 share in the adults 18-49 demographic at 9 p.m.,
according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research.
In its second half-hour, “Stars” peaked at 23.5 million
viewers. Last Wednesday’s episode averaged 18.6 million
viewers, making it the No. 1 show for the week.

Earlier in the night, the finale of “Beauty and the Geek”
was a blockbuster by WB Network standards. The concluding
episode of “Geek” reeled in 4.1 million viewers in the 8 p.m.
hour. In the WB’s youthful demo targets like females 12-34 and
women 18-34, “Geek” peaked with healthy 2.4 rating and 2.3
rating, respectively.

Reality finales aside, the rest of primetime was pretty
much a dead zone of repeats. ABC’s 8 p.m. repeat of “Dancing
with the Stars” took in a respectable 10.2 million viewers and
2.6/9 in adults 18-49.

ABC waltzed to the nightly victory with an average of 13.3
million viewers and 3.9/12 in adults 18-49. NBC, which served
up two “Law & Order” repeats and a 10 p.m. installment of
“Dateline,” was a distant second in viewers (7.1 million) while
CBS was No. 2 in adults 18-49 thanks to the 10 p.m. encore of
“CSI: NY” (9.5 million, 2.9/8).
