Wesabe's Free iPhone Application Lets Consumers Manage Their Money On the Go

- App Speeds Data Entry By Using GPS and Yahoo! Local APIs To Determine Closest Merchants -

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Wesabe today announced a free application to help consumers track and manage their money on their iPhone or iPod Touch. Wesabe's iPhone app lets members: view all of their bank and credit card accounts in one place; track their cash spending on the go; edit, categorize and tag their purchases; and set up and monitor spending targets via their phone. When consumers input a purchase, the app saves time on typing by offering up the names of the closest merchants, using the phone's GPS and Yahoo! Local APIs.

"With Wesabe's iPhone app, consumers can see exactly how much money they have anytime, anywhere, which leads to better-informed buying decisions," said Marc Hedlund, CEO of Wesabe. "This app also solves the problem of tracking cash purchases, which are often a budget black hole. Now iPhone users have a fast, easy way to document those little expenses that can add up to make a big financial dent."

To download the application, visit the iTunes App Store at http://www.itunes.com/apps/wesabe. Wesabe members simply log in using their existing credentials, while new members can sign up for a Wesabe account via their phone in less than a minute and begin adding cash transactions. Bank and credit card accounts can be added at www.wesabe.com. Account balances and transactions sync every time the iPhone app launches, ensuring the most up-to-date information.

"Unlike other applications that just show a static, read-only snapshot of your finances, the Wesabe iPhone app uses the full capabilities of the iPhone - GPS technology, web browsing features, graphics-rich views, and incredibly easy interaction," said Hedlund.

Additional features of Wesabe's app include:

  • Text-to-graph views - Hold the phone upright for a text view of your finances, flip the phone sideways for an interactive graph of spending vs. earnings (in the Accounts tab) or of current spending targets (in the Targets tab).
  • Privacy protection via a Wesabe-specific PIN - Set an optional four-digit passcode (which works in the same way as the main iPhone passcode) to lock your financial data without having to PIN-protect the whole phone.
  • Data protection for lost/stolen phone - Block access to the app by clicking a button on Wesabe's site. If you find your phone, all data can be restored.
  • Pending transactions - if you've signed up for Pending Transactions in Wesabe Labs, you can enter upcoming withdrawals on any account.
  • Works with all versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch with operating system 2.1 or later.
  • Full support for worldwide currencies.

"We designed this app with the privacy and security of our members in mind. By adding a Wesabe-specific PIN, if you lend your phone to a friend, he can't see your bank balances," said Hedlund. "You shouldn't have to lock your whole phone just to protect your financial data."
