The StormStruck exhibit enables guests from around the world to experience the power of a weather event while learning how to prepare for floods, hail, high winds, and lightning. The newly developed “flood wall” shows guests how floods can happen, the damage they can cause and the steps they can take to protect their families and their homes.

National Flood Insurance Program — NFIP and FloodSmart
In order to help alleviate the financial devastation caused by flooding, Congress created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in 1968. The NFIP, managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, enables residents in participating communities to purchase federally backed flood insurance. In 2004, the FloodSmart, a comprehensive, integrated campaign to educate and inform partners, stakeholders, property owners and renters about financially protecting their homes and businesses from flood damage.
