2009 Sales Quotas – First Quarter Results Reported

April 30, 2009

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 30 /PRNewswire/ — The 2009 Sales Quota Update Survey provides real-time information on sales quota performance at the close of the 2009 first quarter.

The results suggest that half of the companies are adjusting quotas to match market realities. The other 50% are either: 1) doing fine and don’t need to make adjustments, 2) going to wait before making any adjustments, or 3) planning to let their sales personnel “suffer/participate” with the rest of the company personnel now being subjected to no pay raises, layoffs and curtailed expenses.

“Even with reported soft sales quotas assigned for 2009, the first quarter has been tough on sales personnel. Only 37.8% are reaching quota on year-to-date basis,” reports David Cichelli, survey editor and Senior Vice President of The Alexander Group, Inc.

More than 200 companies representing over 120,000 sales personnel contributed to the survey. Over 45% of the reporting companies have sales greater than $500m a year.
