Makai Inc. Makes World Record Promotion

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire/ — Its official! Makai’s promotion for Betfair, a company specializing in online betting exchange, has been accepted in the Guinness Book of World Records. The promotion which included the construction of a billboard the size of over 80 football fields was acknowledged as the “World’s Largest Billboard.”

In today’s competitive market, brands are looking for new and creative ways to reach consumers. That means that companies have to think outside of a very large box to get attention. And that’s just what Makai Worldwide was able to accomplish with their concept for online betting exchange, Betfair.

With a little ingenuity and a lot of manpower Team Makai was able to circumvent the now notoriously tough regulations on advertising for gambling and erect a natural billboard made up of over 50,000 flowers. The advertisement could be seen on approach to Vienna International airport as football fans from all over the world arrived to watch the 2008 European Football Championship.

In just four months time, Team Makai, in conjunction with local farmers and horticulturists, activated the ambitious task using wheat, marigolds, clover, poppies and grass to spell out the message “No.1 for football and still growing.”

The first of its kind, the gigantic flower billboard with its 130 foot letters spanning 521,750 square yards or over 80 football fields, drew the attention of more than just fans flying in to see the game. In addition to being recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, the promotion was seen by over 20 million viewers as it aired on BBC World and various US networks. “I’m incredibly proud of our European team,” said Makai Inc. founder and CEO Robbie Thain. “They’ve raised the bar and completely embody the creative spirit we encourage at Makai.”
