Shanghai Municipal Government Officially Confirmed as a Supporter of the 2nd CGDC

Posted on: Wednesday, 6 May 2009, 09:00 CDT

BEIJING, May 6 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Organizing Committee of the 2nd China Game Developers Conference (CGDC), including Howell International Trade Fair Ltd., received, on April 22, 2009, the official confirmation from Shanghai Municipal Government that it would be one of the supporters of CGDC this year.

In 2004, ChinaJoy, after persistent persuasion from Shanghai Municipal Government, decided to put its venue in Shanghai annually. Since then, with the support given by Shanghai, ChinaJoy, now with six years' history, has become a famous game show in the world. On the other side, the exposition and conferences of ChinaJoy have promoted the development of Shanghai's digital entertainment industry in the past years; in fact, the Shanghai government has readily acknowledged and praised the benefits brought to its game industry. So we have every reason to believe that the 2nd CGDC, with the support from the Shanghai Municipal Government, will also grow into an internationally recognized event in the game industry, which will play a decisive role in upgrading and introducing Shanghai's game development into the international market.

Shanghai is internationally recognized as one of the most famous and popular metropolises among Chinese cities. The Yangtze River Delta, which is centered in Shanghai, has seen its cultural and creative industry growing very fast: in fact, over half of the Chinese game developers and operators, as well as related outsourcing companies, are located there. Many internationally renowned game publishers, including EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft, THQ, Take2 and NCsoft, have set up offices or R&D centers in Shanghai. As the city's international standing improves, more and more foreign press and media have also established offices here: until 2007, there were 13 foreign news media that had opened offices in Shanghai. This, of course, gives the city advantages in news broadcasting.

These advantages of the city, in market, transportation, media coverage and industry development, will bring more convenience to the visitors of CGDC09. With the support from Shanghai Municipal Government, the CGDC will serve as a better platform for the global game industry, on which enterprises and professionals will find it much easier to get to know the development and achievements of China game industry.

After finalizing the three-day program and 47 general topics, the 2nd CGDC, which will be held on July 24-26 this year at Shanghai International Convention Center, has started soliciting speakers from all over the world.

Mr. Mike Morhaime, President of Blizzard Entertainment; Mr. Jay Allen, Senior Producer of Blizzard Entertainment; Mr. Dave Weinstein, Security Development Engineer from Microsoft; Mr. David Fried, Senior Game Designer of Ubisoft; Mr. Kim Hyung Jun, Art Director of AION from NCsoft; and Mr. Seo Min, CEO of Nexon Corporation have officially confirmed as conference speakers. World-renowned companies like EA, THQ, 2K, AMD, nVidia and EPIC have also decided that they will send speakers to the conference, sharing with participants their experience in game development.

We will be waiting for you at the coming CGDC09 of the global game industry!
