deviantART and Wacom Promote Art Community Participation

Posted on: Wednesday, 6 May 2009, 18:09 CDT

LOS ANGELES, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Online art community site deviantART.com announces today a unique collaboration with Wacom, the world leader in pen tablets and interactive pen displays for creative professionals. As part of Wacom's global introduction of the new Intuos4 professional pen tablet, Wacom participated in an online contest to engage deviantART's community. In the first few days alone, the integration has generated 39,281 comments, 5,730 entries and 1,129,420 page views at deviantART.com from all over the world.

deviantART is hosting "Bring Your Vision to Life," a contest challenging its members to submit work on the theme of "Good vs. Evil." The contest ties into the broader Wacom campaign for the Intuos4 that features extraordinary digital artists bringing a variety of emotions "to life," using Wacom professional pen tablets. As a part of the integration, Wacom has its own membership status on deviantART where the campaign graphics are posted for commentary and feedback from the deviantART community.

"deviantART allowed Wacom a unique opportunity to immerse itself in an expansive community of artists, many of whom already use our pen tablets," said John Bistolas, Wacom's Director of Marketing Communications. "The affinity is natural. Wacom feels very welcome here."

deviantART, the largest art community ever assembled, is an online social network with over 8 million members, tens of millions of unique monthly visitors and over 1.5 billion page views a month. There are over 75 million works of art available through its site.

"Wacom sets the standard for helping artists, with tools that are intuitive and empowering to creative professionals. It's always a privilege to be in business with a clear market leader, but a special privilege to serve artists together," said deviantART CEO, Angelo Sotira. "The connection between artists and their Wacom tools is very special. In fact, it's a surprisingly deep attachment. One artist recently commented on the site that Wacom changed his life!"

A panel drawn from Wacom's worldwide marketing executives will judge the contest. The prizes include top of the line Wacom Intuos4 pen tablets, cash and variety of deviantART signature products. The contest is open to all members of deviantART through May 19, 2009. No membership or other fees are required to enter.

"With the help of deviantART, we can touch artists directly all over the world and embrace creative thinking and design," added Bistolas. "The viral interchange really has been remarkable and a high point in our product launch for the Intuos4 series. We particularly look forward to honoring the winners in this contest."

The contest will remain open until May 19, 2009.
