CGPA Sends Notification Protecting the Intellectual Property Rights of ‘China Game Developers Conference’

May 8, 2009
Repost This

BEIJING, May 8 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Targeting the IP protection of CGDC,
recently CGPA once again sent an Official Notification to its members, 130
game companies in China in all, calling on them to protect the intellectual
property rights of CGDC and the interests of the China game industry. The
Notification encourages members to give resistance to the event called GDC
China, organized by UBM in China, which infringes the IP of CGDC.

The Official Notification is below:

The 2nd China Game Developers Conference (“CGDC”), the preparation of
which has been supported and guided by relevant authorities including General
Administration of Press and Publication of P.R. China, is to be held in July
this year by China Game Publishers Association (CGPA) and Howell International
Trade Fair Ltd. To the knowledge of the organizers of the 1st CGDC, a company
named United Business Media (“UBM”) recently announced that, after the 1st
“Game Developers Conference-China” (which in fact never existed), it would
host the 2nd “GDC-China” in October this year in China. It not only lied that
the 1st CGDC was in fact the 1st “GDC-China” but also, without authorization
from the organizer of the 1st CGDC, used the photos, the conference program
and information about the Advisory Board and speakers of the 1st CGDC for
promotion of its own event. What UBM has done clearly amounts to violation of
the intellectual property rights of the organizer of the 1st CGDC and
disruption of the preparation of this year’s CGDC event. Therefore, CGPA, as
one of the organizers of the CGDC, will do its best to protect its
intellectual property rights in CGDC and related activities, and, when
necessary, will resort to law as this is also relevant to the rights and
interests of all game developers in China.

On account of what UBM has done with the intellectual property of CGDC,
the CGPA would like to call on our member companies, in particular those that
hold the posts of vice chairman and executive director, not to participate in
any form in the preparation or organization of the “GDC-China 2009″ or promise
to attend any of its events or conferences’ activities, as any of such
participation will assist in the infringement upon the intellectual property
rights of CGDC and in turn be detrimental to the interests of the whole China
game industry.

Member companies who have questions may consult with the Organizing
Committee of CGDC through Ms. Nan Zheng (8610-82603101) and Mr. Yunpeng Tan (8610-51659355-ext 19).
