Pop Artist Nelson De La Nuez’s, ‘The Promised Land,’ Artwork Appears on The Celebrity Apprentice T.V. Show

Artist Donates Portion of All Canvas Sales to Refugees International, Annie Duke’s Charity on the reality show
LOS ANGELES, May 8 /PRNewswire/ — Well-known pop artist Nelson De La Nuez’s signature piece of art has long been known as “The Promised Land,” which depicts Jesus pointing a young couple in their car towards Las Vegas with a sign in the background, one way pointing to Heaven and the other, to Vegas, with the title summing it all up. “My initial concept for this piece was based on Moses leading people in the desert to the Promised Land. I thought that it would be funny to have a young couple asking Jesus for directions to the Promised Land and he points them to Las Vegas. This piece would not have worked using any other city than Las Vegas because it is known as Sin City. People read all different types of meanings into this artwork, so it really is open to interpretation — one man even showed me the tattoo of it he got on his arm,” the artist laughs.
Many prominent people have purchased the piece over the years, one of them being world champion poker player
Annie Duke and her boyfriend
Joe Reitman. Annie says “it sums up everything you need to know about her in the one work of art.” The viewers of Celebrity Apprentice will get to see the artwork on the show.
Due to the fact that this is Annie’s favorite piece of art and her charity on Celebrity Apprentice is Refugees International,
Nelson De La Nuez decided to donate 30% of every sale from anyone who buys the artwork on his website http://www.popcultureart.com to this charity.
The charity donations will continue through Wednesday, May 13th, 2009. “The Promised Land” is a limited edition silkscreen canvas in the size of 20″ x 30″ and a certificate of authenticity will be issued for every piece.
Refugees International works around the world, advocating for lifesaving assistance and protection for displaced people. One of Annie’s interests is in supporting their work in Sudan. The needs are pressing, and the resulting instability is threatening peace throughout all of Sudan, including Darfur.
Nelson De La Nuez is one of the most innovative pop artists of today. His unique blend of pop and surrealism has brought him to the forefront of the art world, which gained him worldwide recognition. The artist is known for his distinctive style called “Art on the Edge,” which is creating art on all sides of the canvas.
