NBC to air ‘SNL’ shorts special

NBC has announced plans to air a new prime-time U.S. special Saturday Night Live Just Shorts this month.

SNL cast member Andy Samberg is to serve as host of the program, which will feature some of the sketch comedy show's most popular short films.

The special is slated to air May 17 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET on NBC.

It's great to be able to show all these great (shorts) from the past to a generation that is not familiar with them, Samberg said in a statement. For me to do hosting segments and be able to (introduce) 'Synchronized Swimmers,' this is not just something that influenced me heavily but influenced everybody in comedy.

Among the other shorts included in the special are TV Funhouse, written by Robert Smigel; the 2007 Emmy Award-winning digital short D**k in a Box, featuring pop singer Justin Timberlake; Lazy Sunday; Japanese Office; United Way with football star Peyton Manning; MacGruber; Star Wars Screen Tests; Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, and Mr. Bill, NBC said in a news release.
