Hundreds of Funeral Homes, Cemeteries Collect Recipes and Memories, Raise Donations for Feeding America

May 12, 2009

NEW ORLEANS, May 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Hundreds of funeral homes and cemeteries have teamed with Feeding America(R), the leading hunger-relief charity in the U.S., to create the Second Helpings program.

Does the aroma of grandma’s fresh-baked cookies stir up a special memory for you? How about a comforting taste of your favorite soup? Do you wish these soothing food memories could be captured and shared with others? That’s just what the Second Helpings Program is doing.

These facilities are collecting the favorite recipes and culinary memories of loved ones for their Second Helpings cookbook, available for purchase in the fall of 2009. For every recipe received, Simplicity Plan(R) providers across the country will make a monetary donation to Feeding America.

From May 1 to Aug. 31, all are invited to submit their recipe or culinary memory to be considered for the cookbook in three ways:

  1. Visit any funeral home or cemetery that is a Simplicity Plan provider, fill in an information card and drop it in the collection box at the facility.
  2. Pick up a Second Helpings brochure at any funeral home or cemetery that is a Simplicity Plan provider. Write down a recipe on the enclosed information card and mail it in at your convenience.
  3. Visit www.SecondHelpingsOnline.com to enter your recipe online.

No purchase is necessary to submit a recipe or memory for the Second Helpings cookbook. For more information regarding the Second Helpings program or to learn more about purchasing a cookbook, visit www.SecondHelpingsOnline.com.

Backed by a national network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, Simplicity Plan(R) is a complete final needs program that offers the tools, information and resources individuals need to organize, document and store personal end-of-life decisions. It is a registered trademark of Stewart Enterprises, Inc., which currently owns and operates 221 funeral homes and 140 cemeteries in the United States and Puerto Rico and is publicly traded on Nasdaq under the symbol STEI.
