As Sales Personnel Underperform-2009 Corporate Cutbacks Abound

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 14 /PRNewswire/ — The 2009 Sales Quota Update Survey results indicate that more than 200 corporate entities have made the following cutbacks:

  • 69.34% Expense Restrictions (non-travel)
  • 67.45% Travel Restrictions
  • 62.26% Pay Freeze
  • 55.66% Hiring Freeze
  • 54.72% Layoffs
  • 15.57% Pay Reductions

“As of the close of the first calendar quarter, only 37.8% of sales personnel are achieving their year-to-date sales quota,” reports David Cichelli, Senior Vice President of The Alexander Group, Inc.

Over half of the reporting sales departments are making across-the-board changes in sales quotas to match market realities.

More than 200 companies representing over 120,000 sales personnel contributed to the survey. Over 45% of the reporting companies have sales greater than $500m a year.
