Cleveland Clinic CIO Named to Federal Advisory Committee on Health Information Technology

As one of 23 experts appointed to the federal advisory committee by HHS, Dr. Harris will be making recommendations to the National Coordinator on standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria for the electronic exchange and use of health information. The committee's first meeting is scheduled for
Dr. Harris, Chairman of Cleveland Clinic's Information Technology Division and Executive Director of eCleveland Clinic, has helped launch Cleveland Clinic's patient portal, MyChart, as well as several other initiatives, including DrConnect for referring physicians, the online second opinion tool MyConsult, and MyPractice Community for private practice physicians.

Dr. Harris has served on a number of national technology efforts, including: the HHS Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine; Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board; The President's Commission on Care for America's Returning Wounded Warriors; and the Congressional Commission on Systemic Interoperability, which studied the development of a national health information network.
