Posted on: Monday, 18 May 2009, 08:00 CDT

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Syabas, a leading provider of over-the-top settop software and hardware, today named Weber Shandwick its public relations agency of record. Weber Shandwick will provide media relations, branding and Web site design guidance, communications support for print, broadcast and social media programs and overall strategic counsel.

Fremont, Calif.-based Syabas develops products that enable users to stream audio and video content from their personal computers and the Internet to their television sets. The company also manufactures the industry award-winning Popcorn Hour A-110, a standalone settop box that supports more high bit-rate video file formats than any other competing settop maker. Syabas currently sells Popcorn Hour boxes around the world and has acquired a fervent following and industry accolades from print and online publications such as Engadget, CNET and PCWorld.

"Given Weber Shandwick's exemplary work in the consumer electronics manufacturing space we believe they can help increase awareness of Syabas and drive sales of our current and upcoming product line," said Syabas Chief Operating Officer, Alex Limberis. "We are confident in Weber Shandwick's knowledge of cloud media and the over-the-top settop box category, and we look forward to working with them to enhance our corporate brand positioning and direct our go-to-market strategies."

"The over-the-top settop box market is exploding today," said Rick Popko, group manager at Weber Shandwick. "We view this opportunity with Syabas as an opportunity for us to help raise its profile and product sales. We look forward to building out the company's strategic messaging architecture, increasing executive visibility and implementing a comprehensive reviews and awards program."
